Welcome to Parawatch Wiki!
Foreword
Important Statement
Parawatch Wiki is a fictional literary writing website. All content on the website, including so-called “users”, “posts”, “discussions”, and “personal experiences”, is fictional and has no real-world significance. This Site is not a real supernatural forum, nor is it in any way a role-playing activity.
We position ourselves as enthusiasts of internet horror culture, engaging in weird fiction writing in a particular format. All visitors and creators are asked to maintain this understanding at all times. Outside the Site, please do not disseminate Site content as real events.
What are Parawatch Wiki and the SCP Foundation?
The SCP Foundation and Parawatch Wiki are both online collaborative fictional writing websites.
Parawatch Wiki is a Group of Interest (GoI) within the SCP Foundation universe, proposed by NatVoltaic and The Great Hippo of the SCP Foundation English Site.
The Foundation does not really exist; it is a fictional literary work. For example, Parawatch Wiki, the Chaos Insurgency, and the Global Occult Coalition are all fictional literary works.

Staff and Community Discussion Guide
About Staff
Every staff member is themselves at least a trusted user, with extensive experience in writing and communicating with site members. A list of staff members is provided at the end of this page. You should know who the administrators and moderators are. You should also be familiar with when staff members are authorized to exercise their duties.
To be frank, administrators and moderators can also express opinions as authors and ordinary site members. It is not acceptable to be hostile toward them, but you are allowed to debate, disagree with, and discuss anything that interests you in informal settings, unless a staff member is exercising their duties.
Identifying Staff Acting in an Official Capacity
Posts made by staff members while exercising their duties are called staff posts or administrative posts. These posts are clearly marked as “Staff Post” or “Administrative Post”.
Normally, these posts are for members to read only. Do not reply to staff posts unless the title says “Open” or “Rewrite Requested”.
Discussion Area Posting Rules
The rules of the Wiki discussion area differ from those of other forums. Please abandon the habit of making “shitposts” that you may have developed on Tieba or other forums. Posts with no substantive content and low-quality posts are violations in the Wiki discussion area.
Please make sure you are familiar with the Criticism Policy and the rules of the section in which you are posting. You can usually find the rules for each section in its pinned posts.
Per-Page Discussions
In the discussion area of each article, please provide constructive feedback whenever possible. Simply telling an author that “the idea doesn't work” is rather unhelpful; you should offer useful rather than discouraging suggestions.
Writing Help Forum
Posting criticism or feedback on the forum differs from doing so in a per-page discussion area. Posts intended as criticism should be more comprehensive; merely pointing out typos or grammatical errors is not enough.
Repeatedly posting problematic criticism may result in disciplinary action. If you are unsure whether you are capable of providing high-quality criticism, it is better to let more experienced members comment first.
Avoid Repeated Posts Within a Short Period
Use the editing function instead of publishing a new post. Click “Options” at the bottom right of your post, then click “Edit” to edit your post.
About Karma
Karma on Wikidot only represents your level of activity across the entire Wikidot website—not just this Site. Having a high Karma score does not mean that you have any authority on this Site, does not make your statements more persuasive, does not grant you any privileges, and will not be used as a criterion when enforcing the Site Rules.
Statements that use Karma scores as a standard for judging others, as well as behavior involving large numbers of meaningless posts on this Site to increase Karma, may be treated as “problematic conduct”.
Posting Helpful Comments
Here are some things you may consider including when leaving a comment:
- Where are the strengths or weaknesses of the work?
- How could the work be improved?
- Ask questions that give the author ideas and perspectives about the work to think about.
- Why do you personally like or dislike it?
We are not asking you to write a full reading report every time you comment on a work, but providing good feedback can improve our community and also help you improve your own writing.
Please refer to the Criticism Policy for more detailed information about the principles you should follow when commenting.
The Core Aesthetics of Parawatch Wiki Writing
The style of Parawatch Wiki is not direct gore or monsters, but a sense of unease that gradually seeps in, built up from a pile of small details. It can be understood through the following keywords:
Everydayness
The most unsettling horror often occurs in the most familiar settings. Office buildings late at night, highways in the early hours of the morning, corridors of old residential buildings with no one around. The more mundane and ordinary everyday life is, the more chilling the anomaly that seeps out of it becomes.
Omission
Good horror does not explain everything clearly, but plants fear in the reader’s imagination. Do not pursue a perfectly closed-loop ending. Stop at the moment that makes the reader most uneasy, and let the reader complete the final pieces of the puzzle themselves.
Credibility
Although the story is fictional, the narrative needs to be filled with solid details. Specific times, places, sounds, smells, and tactile sensations. A timestamp precise to the second is often more powerful than a paragraph of ornate description.
Restraint
Do not rush to frighten the reader. Excellent Parawatch writing spends most of its opening calmly laying out everyday life, then lets the anomaly slowly seep in like ink dropped into clear water, spreading slowly and irreversibly.
Creative Forms and Styles
Parawatch Wiki encourages diverse writing styles. First-person narration can create an extremely strong sense of immediacy, while third-person narration can likewise document internet horror. You do not need to lock yourself into the “help-seeking post” format. The key is to grasp the aesthetic principles above rather than adhere rigidly to any particular person or narrative format.
Our most classic format is the forum-post style, with a strong sense of immediacy and incompleteness. At the same time, you can explore other forms suited to internet horror: chat logs, diary fragments, textual transcriptions of surveillance footage, collections of forum posts. Any form capable of carrying a horror atmosphere falls within the scope of creation.
Regardless of which form you choose, remember: you are using words to capture a piece of “horror recorded on the internet”, not writing a traditional short story, nor writing any form of archival document.
How to Write a Parawatch Story
A typical Parawatch story usually follows a path like this: begin with completely normal everyday life, use incidental details to establish realism, then let the anomaly slowly seep in, have the protagonist repeatedly attempt to explain it rationally until those explanations gradually fail, let the fear escalate, and finally stop abruptly at the climax.
Extraneous details are an important technique for creating a sense of reality. When people recount experiences in real life, they inevitably mix in rambling details unrelated to the main thread. The food delivery was sent to the wrong address that day, the neighbor next door was arguing again, the phone was almost out of battery so the post was written in a hurry. These useless pieces of information do not advance the plot, but they make the whole story come alive.
The language itself does not need to be perfect. Sentences that are too clean can carry a sense of “being written”. Retaining some awkward phrasing, repeated words, and hurried tones often enhances the credibility of the narration. Basic fluency still needs to be maintained, but every sentence does not have to be a masterpiece.
